Of all the locations in the city, the Day and Night is perhaps the most popular or commonly used place for nightlife in Udon Thani for the search of bar girls, as far as ferang visitors go. It is located on Soi Samphan Thamit, just off Prajak Siilapacom, where the Nutty Park complex can be found, and a little further the night market and railway station.
It's a fairly large and open complex with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly girls. There's quite a range of ages and levels of attractiveness but as a persons looks are fairly subjective, it's impossible to say for certain if you are going to find what you consider to be an 'eye popping' girl.

I would say that most are pretty, sometimes in their own way perhaps, but one thing is for sure - they all play the game pretty well, exactly as they do in Pattaya, Phuket, Bangkok and anywhere else where there is a concentration of eager ferang looking to have sex with them.
The bars at the front of the complex always seem to be the busier bars, with the ones at the other end are often deserted a lot of the time. Those bars do not help themselves much by pushing their beer prices higher to make up for the lack of visitors. What does not happen in Udon Thani, as it does in Pattaya all too often, is that you are not literally dragged in to the bars. Most will say hello and perhaps do or say something to tempt you in, but you are not harrassed. It is worth looking at all the bars first to see what and who is available to spend some time with, and no one is going to mind you doing that.
There are 16 bars in Day and Night, but not all of them have working girls, although most have at least two or three hoping to get lucky. The Scotsman, on the left side, is a bar that does not have bar girls working there, so if you are looking for a peaceful drinking, without the distraction or attention of one of the Thai lovely's, this bar will provide that refuge for you.

The bars in Day and Night are what I would call a typical Thai girly bar - a bar with a few stools around it, while some others have tables and small seating area, the occasional pool table somewhere, and widescreen TV's where sports can sometimes be watched. Some of the bars play music, although sometimes annoyingly there are two or three bars are playing music at the same time and it can be hard to hear exactly what is going on. Drinks are about 60 baht for a small bottle (almost regardless of the beer) and lady drinks are well in excess of 100 baht in many cases.
The girly bars in Day and Night don't really offer much in the way of a cozy atmosphere but are generally pleasant enough to spend a few hours. Opposite the Day and Night, and a little to the right, is a small clutch of bars with a small side road that almost goes unnoticed. There are 3 bars on this small side street with a few empty units waiting for tenants to occupy them. The bar that faces the road has plenty of visitors, but it appears that none of the others do a great deal of business. There are some girls working in these bars so a little variety is offered. Among the common factors of the bars in Day and Night is that they all have a 'private' toilet to the rear of the bar area, which are often used for personal services, so if you fancy a quick BJ or HJ between drinks, your almost certainly going to get it here if you ask. I have heard reports that some bars charge bar fines, although technically the girl has not left the bar! A bit of a sharp practice in my book, and I would suggest this is challenged if it happens to you. Predictably enough, there's an ATM machine right outside the Day and Night complex, should you do find a 'play thing' for the night but are a little short on money. Also right next to the ATM machine is a small bar called the ATM bar. Heading south, and on the way to Nutty Park, there is another bar that wants to lure ferang in to their premises, but if the girls are not outside, trying to get you to go in, you probably walk past it without noticing it! If you want a quiet drink during the day, starting from about 11.00 am, the Scotsman is a good bar to head for. There are frequently some 'regulars' here, sometimes with the wives or girlfriends. Ian, The guy that owns the bar, is a personable bloke and a warm welcome is assured. The bars in Day and Night are supposed to close at 1.00 am but I have known at least one bar to remain open for an extra hour or so. |
