Udon Thani LadyboysUdon Thani has a thriving and ever growing ladyboy contingent and there is barely a day goes by where you will not see one or more walking around, serving in bars and restaurants, riding around on their motorbikes etc. The ladyboys in Udon Thani generally keep themselves to themselves but it is not unknown for them to call out to you as they pass on their motorbike. I am not sure if they are just saying hello, or hoping you want some kind of involvement with them.
If you are visiting Udon Thani in the hope of meeting ladyboys in a bar then you will not find many in the beer bars in Day and Night or Nutty Park although some are occasionally present in both 'parks', however there is one location nearby where you will see lots of them, and that is at the Udon Thani Night Market, from 4.00pm and in to the evening. |
Walking around Nong Parjak Park in the evening could see you drawing attention to yourself and an opportunity to meet a ladyboy or two here could well be on the cards. I have no doubt there are many Thai bars, clubs and disco's where the Udon Thani ladyboys frequent to forge relationships, but as a westerner, getting to know about these places is not always as straight forward as it could be. Once you find a place where the ladyboys do frequent in Udon Thani, the next stumbling block is the language barrier. As with the most of the Thai population in Udon Thani, most do not speak anything other than Thai, or perhaps a handful of English, which can be terribly frustrating.
The Beach Bar Restaurant on Soi Samphan Thamit, on Ferang Alley, recruits mainly ladyboy waiting staff, and there are normally three or four ladyboys to be found here most days. They speak a little more English, but not a great deal, and certainly not enough to talk on a very casual basis. Mr Tongs, adjacent to the Nutty Park entertainment park, seems to be the most likely place to find ladyboys but just how many there are at any given time, I have no idea.
By my own admission, the ladyboy scene in Udon Thani is not one that I follow with any particular interest, but will make investigations over the coming weeks and months and update this page accordingly.
