Attractions Near Udon Thani - Phu Foi Lom
Phu Foi Lom (also known as Phu Phoilom) is predominantly a park where you can find some rare plants and a somewhat diverse ecological system. The park is worth a visit providing you don't expect too much. While there is plenty to see, including some nice landscape views, you really need to appreciate nature to the full to really appreciate this park. I would not say that Phu Foi Lom is what might be called a traditional tourist spot as it is more for somewhere for Thai's to get away from the city or their village, relax, eat and talk to friends.
In the wet season (May to October), you will have the chance to see a nearby waterfall at Than Ngam Park in it's full glory, and while quite noisy really is a lovely spot to sit down and just let the world take care of itself for a while without you. As the Udon Thani region is quite synonymous with dinosaurs, it is perhaps unsurprising to find, in addition to the flora and fauna, a number of dinosaur figures spread around the site.
At the parks entrance is a landscaped garden, and by Thai standards is pretty good although work is on-going. There are some nicely sculptured shrubs and flower beds but the lawn is not of a high standard but that is not really surprising here as grass is notoriously difficult to manage here.
How to get to Phu Foi Lom
From Udon Thani, head toward Khon Kaen, on Highway 2. The most direct route is to turn right on to route 2316, some 30km south of the Udon Thani ring road. Follow this road until the end, where it connects to route 2313, where you turn right again. When you enter the village of Nong Saeng, there is a sharp right hand bend, and here you turn left on to a rural road which will take you past the Than Ngam Park, and on to Phu Phoilom Park.
