Udon Thani Attractions - Fountain Roundabout
The second roundabout as you head up the Thahan Road, Udon Thani is the Fountain Roundabout, which is the largest of the three. When the water pumps are working (which is often hit and miss), the roundabout does come to life, especially in the evening and even in the madness of the chronic traffic congestion that can sometimes occur here, is a splendid feature in the heart of the city.
Other than standing back, admiring and photographing the fountain and often lovely displays of surrounding flowers and plants, the roundabout has little else other than lots of traffic whizzing by. You can cross the road and walk among the plant life on a small series of purpose built footpaths, and if the fountain is working, perhaps splash some cool water over you, in the intense sun. To date, I have been very unlucky in that every time I take my camera to the city, the fountain is not in operation. I will capture it in all its glory one day, and will update the image (as opposed to using someone else's image)
In December, when the Kings Birthday parade takes place, the Fountain Roundabout, is a very popular place to view it from as the parade heads up to the Clock Tower and on towards Nong Prajak Park. You can walk here in about 10 to 15 minutes from the main bar areas of Day and Night and Nutty Park.
