Chiang Khan Sky Walk

The Sky Walk at Chiang Khan is some 3 hours 20 minutes drive from Udon Thani in the Loei District. The best option is perhaps to arrange an overnight stay which will give you the opportunity to visit the near by Phu Thok, one of the highest hills in the region.

The Chiang Khan Sky Walk is the longest of it's type at the time of writing, being some 80 m long in total and despite it's remote location, is sure to be a major attraction so you may need to arrive early to get pictures with no people in - I failed on this occasion but will be looking to do better on the next visit in November.

Scheduled to officially open at the end of October 2020 we ended up visiting it 4 months early. The site is open but there is still a lot of work to be completed and the transport to take you up the hill to the Sky Walk begins. Unless you are quite fit I would not recommend trying to walk the 800 m from the car park up to the summit as the incline is quite steep to begin with and gets more severe as you near the top.

Having visited the Sky Walk at Nong Khai (about 203 km to the east), other than the size of the site, there were no real surprises as you look over the border in to Laos, facing hills, jungle and the valley below. With it being a valley below, the moisture in the air tends to hang around a little longer, giving a hazy view so to get great and clear views may be a matter of some luck on the day you visit.

Once I revisit I will write more as the site should be more developed, hopefully complete with food stalls etc.

How To Get To Chiang Khan Sky Walk

From Udon Thani, head west to Nong Bua Lamphu on route 210, then continue heading towards Loei using GPS. Depending on what system you use, it could take you one of three ways but it makes little difference in travelling distance or time.
