Temples Near Udon Thani - Wat Phu Thong Thep Nimit
Following several years of construction Wat Phu Thong Thep Nimit was completed and opened to the public sometime in July 2019. Just how much further development is to follow remains to be seen. At present the grounds are very basic with a large, white Buddha statue being the only feature here, but what an impressive feature it is.
The statue is perched on the top of a small hill, some 30 metres above the road level at the entrance. While there is a road that goes around the statue and uphill to what will eventually be a car park, it is not complete now and the only access to the statue is by 178 steps that go up the hill. The steps are guarded by a pair of large, green and red Naga Snakes of course. The first 20 or so steps are quite gradual but those higher up the hill are steeper.

Once you reach the top you are free to explore all areas where you will find the typical gongs and bells etc. Both at the upper level, and the level below, there are rooms for prayers and naturally decorated with gold leaf, statues and floral decorations. if you enter any of these rooms please remember to remove your shoes before entering. there are no other dress restrictions in place.
