Udon Thani Hospitals
Should you need hospital or medical treatment during your visit to Udon Thani, the city has three international hotels that provide medical services, for a cost to visitors and ex-pats. Two hospitals are close to the main tourist area of the city near the city centre, with the other located to the north of Nong Prajak Park. Most hospitals have doctors and nurses that can at least speak some English (and possible other languages) although the girls that work at the individual department reception desks may be lacking in their foreign language skills. Just remain patient and they will eventually find someone that can talk to you properly.

Prajaksinlapakhom Army Hospital
Often referred to as the Udon Military hospital, this is a government subsidsed hospital but it does accept private patients. This option is well worth considering if you want to substantially reduce your medical bills (Half the cost of private hospitals or less). The only downside is that the hospital is incredibly busy and you could be sitting around for several hours, and passed from department to department as they complete their various stages of paperwork.
English does not appear to be widely spoken, especially among the administration staff but you might be able to get by. A better option is to attend with an English speaking Thai. Address - 550 Thahan Rd, Nong Khon Kwang, Udon Thani Phone - 042 342777 |
Pharmacies
If you are suffering form a condition that is not serious you can simply walk in to a pharmacy anywhere in Udon Thani. Many of these shops will have one or more English speaking people (normally the owner), and as long as you can give them an accurate description of your condition, they will provide pills, drops, medicine etc to relieve you of that condition. This is by far the most cost-effective method of dealing with "trivial" medical conditions.
Pharmacies are shown by large green signs with white writing that is always in Thai, but sometimes in English.
There is one particular pharmacy that we use, hence the recommendation here.

Somsak Pharmacy - Ban Huay
Directly opposite the Ban Huay food market on the Phon Phisai Road, is the Somsak pharmacy we use. Both of the owners speak excellent English and have never failed to treat any condition we have consulted them about.
